Mep Amplitude Measurement

MEP amplitude measurement is a neurophysiological method that quantifies the size of a motor evoked potential, providing an index of corticospinal and motor-cortex excitability. Typically, transcranial magnetic stimulation activates motor pathways, and surface electromyography records the resulting muscle response as peak-to-peak voltage, with stimulus intensity, muscle state, and electrode placement influencing the measurement. In psychology and cognitive neuroscience, researchers use MEP amplitude to investigate motor preparation, inhibition, learning, attention, and changes in cortical plasticity. Repeated measurements can reveal how behavior, training, drugs, or neurological conditions alter the functioning of motor networks.

Pulse amplitude and quality

2024

Pulse amplitude is a crucial indicator of cardiac health because it provides valuable insights into the strength of left ventricular contractions and the overall uniformity of blood circulation within the vasculature. The strength of the pulse is directly related to the force with which the heart contracts and the volume of blood being pumped. A weak or absent pulse may indicate reduced cardiac output or poor left ventricular contraction, which can be signs of cardiovascular dysfunction or...

Using TMS to Measure Motor Excitability During Action Observation

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves passing current through an insulated coil placed against the scalp. A brief magnetic field is created by current in the coil, and because of the physical process of induction, this leads to a current in the nearby neural tissue. Depending on the duration, frequency, and magnitude of these magnetic...

We present a method for achieving sub-nanometer resolution images with amplitude-modulation (tapping mode) atomic force microscopy in liquid. The method is demonstrated on commercial atomic force microscopes. We explain the rationale behind our choices of parameters and suggest strategies for resolution optimization.

Measuring the Contralateral Silent Period Induced by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation

2025

This video demonstrates a technique for measuring the contralateral silent period (cSP) using transcranial magnetic stimulation. Position the patient's hand prone and place an electrode on the first dorsal interosseous (FDI) muscle. Then, place a force-measuring device between the thumb and index finger. Identify the primary motor cortex (M1) region of the brain. Maintain a standardized pressure on the force-measuring device and stimulate the M1 region to record the muscle activity, termed the...
