Practical Intelligence

Practical intelligence is the ability to apply knowledge and experience effectively to manage everyday problems, adapt to changing circumstances, and achieve goals. In psychology, it is commonly associated with tacit knowledge, or experience-based understanding that people acquire through real-world situations rather than formal instruction. Individuals use practical intelligence by adapting their behavior to existing conditions, shaping environments to better fit their needs, or selecting new environments when adjustment is ineffective. Studying this form of intelligence broadens assessment beyond academic performance, helping researchers understand decision-making, workplace competence, social functioning, and how people translate knowledge into effective action.

We present a Turing-like Handshake test administered through a telerobotic system in which the interrogator is holding a robotic stylus and interacting with another party (human or artificial). We use a forced choice method, and extract a measure for the similarity of the artificial model to a human handshake.

The term "intelligence" is complex because it refers to both behavior and individuals, and its interpretation varies across cultures. European Americans tend to link intelligence with reasoning and cognitive skills, while in Kenya, it is tied to responsible participation in family and social life. In Uganda, intelligence is seen as the ability to know the right actions and carry them out effectively, while the Iatmul people of Papua New Guinea associate it with the capacity to remember detailed...

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) constitute a foundational set of guidelines that ensure the production of safe, consistent, and high-quality products, particularly in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and food processing. These protocols encompass all aspects of production, from the sourcing of raw materials to the final distribution of the finished product.A core pillar of GMP is stringent hygiene and sanitation across all production environments. This includes routine...

Measures of Intelligence

Psychologists measure intelligence by using standardized tests that produce a score known as the intelligence quotient or IQ. To understand IQ tests, it's important to recognize the key principles behind their construction: validity, reliability, and standardization. Validity refers to how well a test measures what it claims to measure. An intelligence test should accurately assess intelligence rather than another characteristic, like anxiety. Criterion validity is one way to evaluate this; it...
