Tumor Cell Measurement

Tumor cell measurement is the quantitative assessment of cancer cell number, size, morphology, viability, or growth, providing essential evidence for understanding tumor biology and evaluating experimental outcomes. Researchers measure these features using microscopy, automated image analysis, cell counting, flow cytometry, or metabolic assays, each converting observable cellular properties into numerical data under defined conditions. In cancer research, these measurements help characterize tumor progression, compare cancer cell lines, assess responses to drugs or radiation, and evaluate changes in proliferation and survival. Standardized measurement improves reproducibility and supports the development of models, biomarkers, and therapeutic strategies.

Spatial Measurement of Tumor Interstitial Fluid Pressure: A Method to Measure the Interstitial Fluid Pressure

2023

This video describes a technique of measuring the interstitial fluid pressure within a tumor by perfusion imaging using an image-guided robotic system. Measurements are compared to the intra-tumoral accumulation of liposomes, within a solid tumor.

The goal of these experiments is to generate quantitative time-course data on the growth and gene expression dynamics of attenuated S. typhimurium bacterial colonies growing inside tumors. This video covers tumor cell preparation and implantation, bacteria preparation and injection, whole-animal luminescence imaging, tumor excision, and bacterial colony counting.

An In Vitro Assay to Evaluate the Anti-Tumor Activity of Tumor-Specific CAR T Cells

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro assay to validate chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell activity. B-cell lymphoma cells expressing CD19 antigen and cytoplasmic luciferase are co-cultured with CD19-specific CAR T cells. CAR binding to CD19 on a tumor induces the CAR T cells to release cytokines and toxins that cause tumor cell cytotoxicity. The CAR T cell activity is evaluated by quantifying the released cytokine and decreased luciferase-mediated bioluminescence in the tumor cells.
