Tibial Trial

A tibial trial is a temporary surgical component used during total knee arthroplasty to evaluate how the tibial side of the replacement fits before the permanent implant is selected. After the tibia is prepared, the trial is inserted and assessed with a matching femoral trial to check alignment, joint-line position, soft-tissue balance, knee stability, range of motion, and patellar tracking. Surgeons can adjust the trial’s size, rotation, or thickness to optimize joint mechanics and identify problems before implantation. This intraoperative assessment supports accurate component selection, improves functional outcomes, and helps reduce the risk of instability, malalignment, or restricted movement after surgery.

Source: Brakkee, E. M., et al. Surgery and Behavioral Testing in the Tibial Neuroma Transposition Model in Rats. J. Vis. Exp. (2023).This video demonstrates a procedure to generate a rat tibial neuroma transposition (TNT) model. After exposing the tibial nerve in the hind leg of an anesthetized rat, transect the nerve. Next, create a subcutaneous tunnel, thread the severed nerve through the tunnel, and suture it in place. In the absence of a target for reinnervation, disorganized axonal...

Surgical Angiogenesis in Porcine Tibial Allotransplantation: A New Large Animal Bone Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation Model

Currently any kind of vascularized composite allotransplantation depends on long-term-immunosuppression, difficult to support for non-life-critical indications. We present a new porcine tibial VCA model that can be used to study bone VCA and demonstrate the use of surgical angiogenesis to maintain bone viability without the need of long-term immune-modulation.

The Trial Balance

2025

A trial balance is a fundamental financial statement that provides a snapshot of a company's accounts and their balances at a specific point in time. It serves as an essential tool for verifying the accuracy of financial records by ensuring that the total debits equal the total credits. Typically prepared at the end of an accounting period, a trial balance lists all ledger accounts in the order they appear, with debit balances in the left column and credit balances in the right column. The two...
