T-microchannel

A T-microchannel is a microscale fluidic device in which channels meet in a T-shaped geometry to guide and manipulate small fluid volumes with high spatial control. It matters because microscale flow enables precise handling of fluids, particles, and biological materials while using minimal sample volumes. At the junction, one stream enters the main channel from the side; flow conditions, channel dimensions, and fluid properties determine how the streams divide, mix, or form droplets through interfacial tension and viscous shear. In bioengineering, T-microchannels support controlled emulsification, droplet generation, particle production, and cell or biomolecule handling, providing reproducible platforms for assays, encapsulation, and lab-on-a-chip systems.

A microchannels-on-a-chip platform was developed by the combination of photolithographic reflowable photoresist technique, soft lithography, and microfluidics. The endothelialized microchannels platform mimics the three-dimensional (3D) geometry of in vivo microvessels, runs under controlled continuous perfusion flow, allows for high-quality and real-time imaging and can be applied for microvascular research.

2017

The protocol for a novel ion concentration polarization (ICP) platform that can stop the propagation of the ICP zone, regardless of the operating conditions is described. This unique ability of the platform lies in the use of merging ion depletion and enrichment, which are two polarities of the ICP phenomenon.
