Haploid Spores

Haploid spores are reproductive cells containing a single set of chromosomes, allowing organisms such as fungi, algae, and plants to disperse and begin new life cycles. In many species, they arise through meiosis, which reduces chromosome number and generates genetic variation; under suitable conditions, a spore germinates and develops into a haploid individual or structure. Their small size and resistance to environmental stress support transport through air, water, or soil, while their ability to grow independently makes them important in fungal reproduction, plant alternation of generations, and studies of inheritance, evolution, and cellular development.

(2016)This video demonstrates the cultivation and isolation of spores from Streptomyces venezuelae. Spores, dormant cells that help bacteria survive stress, are produced during nutrient limitation and collected through centrifugation. The method ensures a pure, cold-stored spore suspension for downstream applications.
