Host Cell Rna

Host cell RNA is the collection of ribonucleic acid molecules produced by a cell, including messenger RNA, ribosomal RNA, transfer RNA, and regulatory noncoding RNA, that directs and supports cellular activity. It is generated when DNA is transcribed by RNA polymerase, then processed, transported, translated, or otherwise regulated according to the RNA type and cellular context. In biology, analyzing host cell RNA reveals changes in gene expression during development, stress, disease, or infection, including responses to invading pathogens. RNA sequencing and related methods use these patterns to characterize cell states, identify molecular pathways, and support biomarker discovery and therapeutic research.

This method describes the use of click chemistry to measure changes in host cell transcription after infection with the Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) strain MP-12. Results can be visualized qualitatively via fluorescence microscopy or obtained quantitatively through flow cytometry. This method is adaptable for use with other viruses.

(2019)This video demonstrates the confocal imaging of viral double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) and cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) in virus-infected epithelial cells. It highlights how antibody-based fluorescent labeling reveals the interaction between viral replication intermediates and host immune sensors.

Extracting Host Cell Lysate from Infected Host Cells Cultured in a Permeable Membrane System

2025

This video demonstrates a permeable membrane insert system to investigate the impact of bacterial toxins on host cells in a controlled and isolated manner. This approach allows for the selective exposure of the cells to the toxins while maintaining a physical separation that mimics the natural host-pathogen interaction.
