Nerve Elongation

Nerve elongation is the lengthening of a nerve or its axons through controlled biological growth or mechanical extension, a process important for nervous-system development and nerve repair. In stretch-growth approaches, gradual tension is applied to cultured neurons or nerve tissue, stimulating axonal extension as the cytoskeleton reorganizes and newly synthesized membrane and structural proteins support continued growth. This process can generate longer nerve segments for studying axon development, evaluating neuronal responses to mechanical forces, and developing tissue-engineered grafts for peripheral nerve injuries. Understanding nerve elongation may improve strategies for bridging nerve gaps and restoring connectivity after damage.

Transcription Elongation Factors

2020

Transcription elongation is a dynamic process that alters depending upon the sequence heterogeneity of the DNA being transcribed. Hence, it is not surprising that the elongation complex's composition also varies along the way while transcribing a gene. The transcription elongation is regulated via pausing of RNA polymerase on several occasions during transcription. In bacteria, these halts are necessary because the transcription of DNA into mRNA is coupled to the translation of that mRNA into a...

Novel Metrics to Characterize Embryonic Elongation of the Nematode Caenorhabditis elegans

2016

Here we detail protocols specifically designed to monitor morphogenic defects that occur during early and late phases of embryonic elongation of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. Ultimately, these protocols are designed to identify genes that regulate these phases and to characterize their differential requirements along the antero-posterior axis of the embryo.

In Vivo Biomechanical Testing of Nerve: A Procedure for Biomechanical Analysis of Brachial Plexus Nerve Injury in a Neonatal Pig Model

2025

In this video, we demonstrate the biomechanical testing of the brachial plexus nerve in a pig model to measure the threshold tensile strength of the nerve when subjected to stretching. This technique helps in determining the structural and mechanical properties of the nerve.

Toluidine Blue Staining of Peripheral Nerve Sections: A Technique to Stain Myelinated Nerve Fibers For Peripheral Nerve Structure Visualization
