Cardiac Pulse Detection

Cardiac pulse detection is the measurement of rhythmic cardiovascular activity produced by the heart, providing a rapid, noninvasive indicator of circulation and physiological status. Sensors detect periodic changes associated with each heartbeat, such as blood-volume fluctuations in tissue or pressure-related signals, then convert them into pulse rate and timing data for analysis. In cancer research, these measurements help characterize baseline physiology in patients or experimental models, monitor cardiovascular responses during treatment, and identify systemic effects that may accompany tumor progression or anticancer therapy. Linking pulse data with molecular, cellular, and tumor measurements can strengthen studies of treatment safety and whole-body responses.

When the heart pumps blood out, arterial elastic fibers play a crucial role in sustaining a high-pressure gradient. They expand to accommodate the received blood and then recoil - a process known as the pulse that can be either manually palpated or electronically quantified. Despite a reduction in its effect with increased distance from the heart, elements of the pulse's systolic and diastolic components persist, observable even at the arteriole level. The pulse serves as a clinical indicator...

The pulse is one of the most fundamental physiological indicators of the body's cardiovascular health. It is the rhythmic expansion and contraction of the arterial walls in response to the pressure generated by the heart's pumping action. Pulse Rate and its Significance Pulse rate, often measured in beats per minute (bpm), reflects the heart rate (HR), which is influenced by numerous factors such as stress, physical activity, and hormonal changes. A normal resting adult pulse rate falls between...

Source: Suneel Dhand, MD, Attending Physician, Internal Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center The cardiac assessment is one of the core examinations performed by almost every physician whenever encountering a patient. Disorders of the cardiac system are among the most common reasons for hospital admission, with conditions ranging from myocardial infarction to congestive heart failure. Learning a complete and thorough cardiac examination is therefore crucial for any practicing physician.

2012

An experimental method to examine the early plasma evolution induced by ultrashort laser pulses is described. Using this method, high quality images of early plasma are obtained with high temporal and spatial resolutions. A novel integrated atomistic model is used to simulate and explain the mechanisms of early plasma.
