Cryogenic Trap

A cryogenic trap is a laboratory device that removes condensable vapors from a gas or vacuum stream by cooling them to very low temperatures. As vapor contacts a chilled surface, compounds with sufficiently high boiling points condense or freeze, while less condensable gases continue through the system. In chemistry, cryogenic traps protect vacuum pumps, reduce contamination, and collect volatile solvents or reaction products for disposal or recovery. Their performance depends on trap temperature, vapor pressure, and the chemical compatibility of the collected material with the trap and coolant.
