Halfway Point Ph

Halfway point pH is the acidity or alkalinity measured at the midpoint of a titration, when half of the analyte has reacted with the titrant. In a weak acid–strong base titration, the solution contains equal concentrations of the weak acid and its conjugate base, so the Henderson–Hasselbalch equation gives pH = pKa; for a weak base titration, the analogous relationship involves pOH and pKb. Identifying this point helps determine acid or base dissociation constants, interpret titration curves, select indicators, and characterize unknown solutions. It also provides a practical connection between equilibrium chemistry and quantitative analytical methods.

Synthesis of Masarimycin, a Small Molecule Inhibitor of Gram-Positive Bacterial Growth

2022

A detailed protocol is presented for preparing the bacteriostatic diamide masarimycin, a small molecule probe that inhibits the growth of Bacillus subtilis and Streptococcus pneumoniae by targeting cell wall degradation. Its application as a chemical probe is demonstrated in synergy/antagonism assays and morphological studies with B. subtilis and S. pneumoniae.

2019

Freshwater mussel conservation is dependent on monitoring reproductive patterns and processes of species. This study standardizes a non-lethal protocol for sampling gill contents, characterizing larval development, and providing a digital repository for data collected. This protocol-database package will be an important tool for mussel researchers in recovery of imperiled species.

Generating an Organ Culture Model to Simulate Early-Stage Intervertebral Disc Disease

2025

This video demonstrates the development of a pro-inflammatory and degenerative organ culture model for early-stage intervertebral disc (IVD) disease using TNF-α. It outlines the procedure for injecting TNF-α into the intervertebral disc and explains the mechanisms through which TNF-α induces inflammation and degradation of the IVD.

Examining the Dynamics of Cellular Adhesion and Spreading of Epithelial Cells on Fibronectin During Oxidative Stress

This method is useful for quantifying the early dynamics of cellular adhesion and spreading of anchorage-dependent cells onto the fibronectin. Furthermore, this assay can be used to investigate the effects of altered redox homeostasis on cell spreading and/or cell adhesion-related intracellular signaling pathways.
