Carbon Fiber Composite

Carbon fiber composites are engineered materials that combine strong, lightweight carbon fibers with a polymer matrix to achieve performance beyond that of either component alone. The fibers carry most of the tensile and bending loads, while the matrix binds them together, transfers stresses between fibers, and protects them from environmental damage; fiber orientation and layering tailor properties for specific designs. In engineering, these composites reduce structural weight while maintaining high stiffness and strength, supporting applications in aircraft, spacecraft, vehicles, wind-turbine blades, sporting equipment, and civil infrastructure. Their performance and durability depend on material selection, manufacturing quality, load direction, and resistance to fatigue and impact.

2017

A protocol to expose bare fibers on the composite surface by eliminating resin rich area is presented. The fibers are exposed during fabrication of the composites, not by the post surface treatment. The exposed carbon composites exhibit high electrical conductivity in the through-thickness direction and high mechanical property.

Immunohistochemical staining of myosin heavy chain isoforms has emerged as the state-of-the-art discriminator of skeletal muscle fiber-type (i.e., type I, type IIA, type IIX, type IIB). Here, we present a staining protocol along with a novel semi-automated algorithm that facilitates rapid assessment of fiber-type and fiber morphology.
