Goniophotometer

A goniophotometer is a photometric instrument that measures how a light source or luminaire distributes luminous intensity across different angles, making it important for characterizing optical performance in engineering. During measurement, the instrument rotates the source, detector, or both through a controlled angular range while recording illuminance or luminous intensity, producing an angular photometric distribution and related beam data. Engineers use these measurements to evaluate LED products, lamps, and luminaires, assess beam angle, uniformity, and light output, and generate data for lighting simulations and performance comparisons. The results support optical design, energy-conscious lighting systems, product validation, and placement decisions in architectural, automotive, and other applications.
