Subword Tokenization

Subword tokenization is a natural language processing method that represents text as a sequence of units smaller than words but larger than individual characters, helping computational systems handle vocabulary efficiently. It typically begins with characters or symbols and iteratively forms or selects frequently occurring units, while retaining smaller units to represent unfamiliar or morphologically complex words; algorithms such as Byte Pair Encoding and WordPiece use related vocabulary-learning strategies. In engineering, this approach supports language-model training, machine translation, search, and code-processing systems by limiting vocabulary size and reducing unknown-word failures. Its token choices also affect sequence length, memory use, model performance, and how effectively systems process specialized terminology.

Source: Laboratories of Judith Danovitch and Nicholaus Noles—University of Louisville Jean Piaget was a pioneer in the field of developmental psychology, and his theory of cognitive development is one of the most well-known psychological theories. At the heart of Piaget’s theory is the idea that children’s ways of thinking change over the course of childhood. Piaget provided evidence for these changes by comparing how children of different ages responded to questions and problems that he...

Working memory predicts a significant amount of variance for a variety of cognitive tasks, including speaking, reading, and writing. However, few tools are available to assess working memory in children. We present an innovative, computer-based battery that comprehensively assesses different components of working memory in school-age children.

Transverse aortic constriction (TAC) in the mouse is a commonly used experimental model to study mechanisms underlying cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure development. Here, we describe procedures to constrict the aorta to create a reproducible degree of cardiac hypertrophy in mice.

Experimental Research Examining How People Can Cope with Uncertainty Through Soft Haptic Sensations

To date research has focused on cognitive strategies people adopt to cope with uncertainty. This research examines instead an experiential way of dealing with uncertainty and introduces a set of experimental methods showing how the experience of haptic softness can serve as a tool to deal with uncertainty.
