Hexane Algal Oil

Hexane algal oil is lipid-rich oil recovered from algal biomass through extraction with hexane, an organic solvent, and is studied as a potential renewable feedstock in environmental research. During processing, harvested algae are typically dried or disrupted, allowing hexane to dissolve nonpolar lipids; the solvent is then separated from the extracted oil and can be recovered for reuse. The resulting oil can be evaluated for conversion into biodiesel or other fuels, while researchers assess productivity, energy demand, solvent handling, and environmental impacts to determine whether algal cultivation and extraction can support lower-impact alternatives to petroleum-based resources.
