Anticancer Drug Specificity

Anticancer drug specificity is the ability of a therapy to act more strongly on malignant cells or tumor-associated targets than on healthy tissues, a central goal in medicine because it can improve treatment benefit while limiting toxicity. Specificity arises when a drug recognizes molecular features such as altered signaling proteins, DNA-repair defects, or antigens enriched in cancer cells, or when formulation and activation concentrate its effects within a tumor. This principle guides targeted therapies, antibody-drug conjugates, and tumor-selective prodrugs, supporting more precise treatment selection and combination strategies. However, differences among tumors and the emergence of resistance make predictive biomarkers and ongoing treatment evaluation essential.

Cited by 7 •

2016

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an alternative choice for lung cancer treatment. To increase the therapeutic effect of PDT, lung cancer-targeted nanoparticles combined with chemotherapy were developed. Both in vitro and in vivo anticancer efficacies of PDT with prepared nanoparticles were evaluated.

An Assay To Evaluate the Anticancer Effects of Lactobacillus Cell-Free Supernatant

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro assay to study the anticancer effects of Lactobacillus cell-free supernatant (LCFS). Upon exposing colorectal cancer spheroids to varying doses of LCFS, the interaction with the bacterial metabolites in LCFS induces apoptosis in the cancer cells, disrupting the spheroid structure and leading to cell death in a dose-dependent manner.

Colony Formation Assay: Assessing the Efficacy of Anticancer Agents on Colony-Forming Lung Cancer Cells

2023

This video describes the colony formation assay, which helps determine lung cancer cells' ability to proliferate indefinitely and form individual colonies. We can analyze the effect of an anticancer agent on the colony-forming cells by analyzing the changes in the number and/or size of the resulting colonies.
