Continuous Blood Sampling

Continuous blood sampling is a clinical and research technique that collects blood repeatedly or continuously over an extended period, providing a dynamic view of physiological and biochemical changes. The method typically uses an indwelling vascular catheter connected to an automated sampling system, which withdraws small, timed volumes for laboratory analysis while limiting repeated venipuncture and handling. In medicine, continuous blood sampling supports pharmacokinetic studies, therapeutic drug monitoring, critical-care assessment, and investigation of rapidly changing biomarkers. By linking blood composition to precise time points, it can reveal transient responses, improve treatment evaluation, and strengthen understanding of disease progression and drug effects.

Sampling Continuous Time Signal

2024

In signal processing, a continuous-time signal can be sampled using an impulse-train sampling technique, followed by the zero-order hold method. Impulse-train sampling involves the use of a periodic impulse train, which consists of a series of delta functions spaced at regular intervals determined by the sampling period. When a continuous-time signal is multiplied by this impulse train, it generates impulses with amplitudes corresponding to the signal's values at the sampling points. In the...

Here a protocol for continuous blood sampling during PET/CT imaging of rats to measure the arterial input function (AIF) is described. The catheterization, the calibration and setup of the system and the data analysis of the blood radioactivity are demonstrated. The generated data provide input parameters for subsequent bio-kinetic modeling.

Detection of Rhesus Factor in Human Blood Samples using Magnetic Levitation

2025

This video demonstrates the detection of the Rhesus (Rh) factor in blood samples using a magnetic levitation instrument. The magnetic field aligns and levitates beads and blood cells based on density. Treating the samples with anti-Rh antibodies results in intermediate-density bead-cell complexes' formation, allowing for the differentiation of Rh-positive and Rh-negative red blood cells.
