Copolymer Resin

Copolymer resin is a polymeric material formed by chemically linking two or more different monomer types, allowing its properties to be tailored beyond those of a single-component polymer. During copolymerization, monomers join through covalent bonds in controlled sequences or arrangements, such as random, alternating, block, or graft structures, which influence flexibility, strength, chemical resistance, and degradation. In medicine, copolymer resins support applications including drug-delivery systems, implantable devices, dental materials, tissue-engineering scaffolds, and diagnostic components. Their adjustable composition can improve biocompatibility, mechanical performance, processing behavior, and controlled release, making them valuable for designing materials that meet specific clinical and biomedical requirements.

Source: Schaeffer, J. W., Chandler, et al. Detection of Viruses from Bioaerosols Using Anion Exchange Resin. J. Vis. Exp. (2018).This video demonstrates the detection of viruses from bioaerosols using an anion exchange resin. A liquid impinger containing the resin is used to capture viruses from the air. The resin is collected and treated with a virus lysis buffer containing carrier RNA. The lysate is transferred to a microcentrifuge tube for viral RNA isolation, followed by qRT-PCR to amplify...

The key steps of living anionic polymerization of phenyl glycidyl ether (PheGE) on methoxy-polyethylene glycol (mPEG-b-PPheGE) are described. The resulting block copolymer micelles (BCMs) were loaded with doxorubicin 14% (wt%) and sustained release of drug over 4 days under physiologically relevant conditions was obtained.

Solid-state Graft Copolymer Electrolytes for Lithium Battery Applications

2013

Lithium ion batteries employ flammable and volatile organic electrolytes that are suitable for ambient temperature applications. A safer alternative to organic electrolytes are solid polymer batteries. Solid polymer batteries operate safely at high temperatures (>120 °C), thus making them applicable to high temperature applications such as deep oil drilling and hybrid electric vehicles. This paper will discuss (a) the polymer synthesis, (b) the polymer conduction mechanism, and (c) provide...

Synthesis of Ligand-free CdS Nanoparticles within a Sulfur Copolymer Matrix
