Muscle Hypertrophy Improvement

Muscle hypertrophy improvement is the process of increasing skeletal muscle fiber size to enhance strength, physical function, or recovery, making it relevant to sports medicine, rehabilitation, and age-related muscle loss. Resistance exercise creates mechanical tension and metabolic stress that activate intracellular signaling pathways, increasing muscle protein synthesis; when synthesis consistently exceeds protein breakdown, muscle tissue adapts and enlarges. Progressive training, adequate protein and energy intake, and sufficient recovery support this adaptation, while clinical programs can use it to address weakness, disuse atrophy, and sarcopenia. Understanding these mechanisms helps researchers and clinicians design safer, more effective strategies for preserving and restoring muscle function.

Ascending Aortic Constriction in Rats for Creation of Pressure Overload Cardiac Hypertrophy Model

We describe a stepwise procedure for creating pressure overload and left ventricular hypertrophy in Wistar rats by constriction of the ascending aorta using a small metallic clip. This model is extensively used for studying remodeling changes during cardiac hypertrophy and for identifying and evaluating strategies for regression of such changes.

Technique of Minimally Invasive Transverse Aortic Constriction in Mice for Induction of Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

The aim of this protocol is to describe step-by-step the technique of minimally invasive transverse aortic constriction (TAC) in mice. By elimination of intubation and ventilation which are mandatory for the commonly used standard procedure, minimally invasive TAC simplifies the operative procedure and reduces the strain put on the animal.

Cellular Adaptation II: Hypertrophy

2026

Hypertrophy is the increase in the size of individual cells, resulting in the enlargement of a tissue or organ. Unlike hyperplasia, which involves an increase in cell number, hypertrophy is characterized by an increase in cell volume. This process often occurs in response to higher functional demand or hormonal stimulation, leading to the production of more structural proteins and organelles, thereby enhancing the cells' work capacity. There are two primary types of hypertrophy: physiological...

A novel protocol for the preparation of chromatin from adult mouse skeletal muscle adapted to the study of gene regulation in muscle fibers by chromatin immunoprecipitation is presented.

Improving Strength, Power, Muscle Aerobic Capacity, and Glucose Tolerance through Short-term Progressive Strength Training Among Elderly People

2017

The effect of short-term resistance training on elderly people was investigated through the simultaneous use of several methods. Compared to a control group, many improvements were seen, including on muscle aerobic capacity, glucose tolerance, strength, power, and muscle quality (i.e., protein involved in cell signaling and muscle fiber type composition).
