Rsv Subgroup A

RSV subgroup A is one of the two major antigenic lineages of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), an enveloped virus that commonly infects the respiratory tract and can cause severe disease in infants, older adults, and people with underlying conditions. Its surface G glycoprotein helps the virus attach to airway epithelial cells, while the F glycoprotein drives fusion between viral and cellular membranes, enabling entry and formation of syncytia. Distinguishing subgroup A from subgroup B supports molecular surveillance, outbreak analysis, and evaluation of viral evolution. Subgroup-specific data also inform clinical research, diagnostic assay design, and assessment of vaccines or antiviral strategies.

Rous Sarcoma Virus (RSV) and Cancer

2023

Rous Sarcoma virus or RSV was discovered by F. Peyton Rous in the year 1911 as a filterable transmissible agent that could cause tumors in chickens. He won a Nobel Prize for this discovery in 1966. His experiments clearly demonstrated that some cancers could be caused by infectious agents and led to the discovery of many more cancer-causing viruses in animals as well as humans. RSV is a retrovirus that contains two copies of a plus-strand RNA genome. Its genome consists of four main open...

This study describes a high throughput, imaging-based micro-neutralization assay to determine the titer of neutralizing antibodies specific for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This assay format has been tested on different sample types.

An In vitro Model to Study Immune Responses of Human Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells to Human Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection

Human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) can cause severe bronchiolitis in young infants. Part of the pathogenesis of severe HRSV disease is caused by the host immune response. Stimulation of primary human immune cells with HRSV provides a fast and reproducible model system to study activation of inflammatory pathways and infection.

Generation of GFP-Tagged Recombinant Respiratory Syncytial Virus Using a T7 Expression System

Source: Bouillier, C. et. al., Amplification, and Titration of Recombinant Respiratory Syncytial Viruses. J. Vis. Exp. (2019)This video demonstrates the generation of a green fluorescent protein (GFP)-expressing recombinant respiratory syncytial virus using a T7-based reverse genetics system. The co-transfection of plasmids encoding viral proteins and a GFP-tagged genome leads to protein expression and initiates virus rescue.
