DNA and RNA: Genetic Instructions

Description

DNA and RNA are the nucleic acids that store genetic information and help direct cell activity. These macromolecules carry the cell’s genetic blueprint and the instructions it uses to function. DNA is the genetic material in all living organisms, from single-celled bacteria to multicellular mammals.

Transcript

Nucleic acids are polymers of nucleotides – molecules composed of a pentose sugar, a nitrogen-containing base, and a phosphate group.

There are two types of nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, and ribonucleic acid, RNA.

Their chemical structures differ depending on which pentose sugar and nitrogenous bases they contain.
