Magnetic Field from a Current Element
Description
The Biot-Savart law links a current-carrying wire to the magnetic field it creates. It gives both the magnitude and the direction of that field. The law is named for Jean-Baptiste Biot and Félix Savart, who studied how a straight wire carrying current interacts with a permanent magnet.

Moving charges constitute a current. The magnitude and direction of the magnetic field produced by a steady current are given by the Biot-Savart law.
In a current-carrying wire, consider an infinitesimal charge element. The total charge in the element is given by the number of charges and the volume of the element.
