Nodal analysis can effectively simplify the analysis of circuits having dependent or independent voltage sources.
Consider a circuit with four resistors and two voltage sources configured so that one voltage source is connected between a non-reference node and the reference node.
Here, the voltage at the non-reference node can be written as equal to the voltage of the source.
The other voltage source is connected between two non-reference nodes. These form a supernode or generalized node.
To analyze a circuit with a supernode, both Kirchhoff&#39;s current and voltage law must be applied to determine the node voltages.
First, Kirchhoff&#39;s current law is applied to the supernode, considering the currents through each element. The obtained equation can be written in terms of the node voltages.
Then, the circuit is redrawn to apply Kirchhoff&#39;s voltage law to the supernode.
Going around the loop containing the supernode in a clockwise direction gives a constraint equation.
The resulting three equations can now be solved to determine the node voltages.

The other voltage source is connected between two non-reference nodes. This configuration forms what is known as a supernode or generalized node. Supernodes are a unique concept in nodal analysis, which helps to handle situations where voltage sources are connected between non-reference nodes.
Analyzing a circuit with a supernode necessitates the application of both Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) and Kirchhoff's Voltage Law (KVL). First, KCL is applied to the supernode. This law states that the sum of currents entering a node equals the sum of currents leaving it. By considering the currents through each element within the supernode, an equation can be obtained and written in terms of the node voltages.
Next, to apply KVL, the circuit is redrawn to highlight the loop containing the supernode. KVL states that the sum of the electromotive forces in any closed loop or mesh in a network is equal to the sum of the potential drops in that loop. Going around this loop in a clockwise direction gives a constraint equation.
With these steps, three equations are obtained, which represent the behavior of the circuit. These equations can be simultaneously solved to determine the node voltages.

Nodal analysis uses node voltages and Kirchhoff’s laws to solve circuits with voltage sources. It is a systematic method for breaking a complex circuit into smaller parts that are easier to analyze. In this example, the circuit includes four resistors and two voltage sources.

One voltage source is connected between a non-reference node and the reference node. In that case, the non-reference node voltage can be written directly as the source voltage. This removes one unknown and makes the circuit easier to solve.

The other voltage source is connected between two non-reference nodes. That connection creates a supernode, also called a generalized node. A supernode is a special case in nodal analysis that helps when a voltage source sits between two nodes that are not the reference node.

To analyze the supernode, Kirchhoff’s Current Law (KCL) is used first. KCL says the total current entering a node equals the total current leaving it. The currents through the elements in the supernode are written in terms of the node voltages to form one equation.

Next, Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law (KVL) is applied. The circuit is redrawn to show the loop that includes the supernode, and the loop is traced in a clockwise direction. KVL states that the sum of the electromotive forces in a closed loop equals the sum of the voltage drops in that loop, which gives a second constraint equation.

These steps produce three equations for the circuit. The equations can then be solved together to find the node voltages. This approach shows how nodal analysis handles voltage sources connected to both the reference node and other nodes.
