National Nursing Organizations I

Nursing organizations assume a significant role in the consistent development of the nursing profession through education, research studies, establishing practice standards, and reforming health policies.

They operate at the regional, national, and international levels--for example, the International Council of Nurses, or ICN, at the global level, and the American Nurses Association, or ANA, at the national level.

The focus of the ANA includes professional nursing excellence, code of ethics, credentialing, and standards of practice, among others. The ANA also handles public policies and nurses' financial and overall welfare.

They foster several policies to safeguard nurses rights, for example, the nurses Bill of Rights.

The National League for Nursing, or NLN, is another national organization in the U.S that promotes excellence in nursing education.

They offer testing and assessment services, networking opportunities, faculty development programs, and research grants.

NLN impacts policies that affect nursing workforce development.

They also carry out professional testing services for nursing students and educators, such as the NLN Assessment Services.
