Rural health centers are located in remote regions with few healthcare workers, usually operated by registered nurse practitioners who act as primary care providers.

Here, patients receive emergency or acute care and are referred to larger hospitals for further management.

Next are the schools where nurses provide health education, health assessments, and emergency care for children. They keep track of their immunization status and administer prescribed medications to students.

Some industries have ambulatory clinics staffed with occupational nurses. Their role is to prevent and care for occupational hazards like injury, illness, and minor accidents. The other services include health assessment, health education, and making referrals for severe health conditions.

Living in homeless shelters exposes residents to poor nutrition, overcrowding, abuse, and drug addiction, which increases the risk of disease or harm. Health education, child immunization, and disease treatment are some nursing services provided in homeless shelters.

Rehabilitation centers have multidisciplinary teams that offer physical and emotional recovery and treatment for drug dependency. Caregiving, health education, counseling, and promoting independent living are among nurses' duties in such centers.
