Assessing Body Temperature - Oral

Here is a procedure that explains how to measure an oral temperature using an electronic thermometer.

Before any procedure, it is crucial to practice proper hand hygiene to prevent the transmission of harmful microorganisms.

Next, remove the thermometer from the charging unit and switch on the thermometer and wait for the ready sign.

Gently insert the probe cover until it securely snaps into place, preventing potential cross-contamination.

Instruct the patient to open their mouth and gently insert the probe beneath the tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket lateral to the center of the lower jaw.

Then, advise the patient to close the lips around the thermometer, as it helps maintain proper placement.

Click the scan button on the thermometer and keep the probe in place until the audible sound signals.

Remove the probe from the mouth once the patient's temperature appears on the display unit.

Next, discard the probe cover by pushing the ejection button.

Lastly, disinfect and replace the equipment, perform hand hygiene, and document the findings.
