Ensuring airway patency involves positioning the patient appropriately to drain the affected lung segments, followed by manual or mechanical percussion and vibration of the chest.
Maintaining nutrition includes providing small, frequent meals and oral nutritional supplements.
Elevate the head of the patient's bed to 30 degrees and assist them in sitting up for meals to minimize the aspiration risk.
Encourage increased fluid intake of at least 2 liters per day unless contraindicated.
