What is Energy?
Have you ever wondered what makes cars move, lights turn on, or even your body function? The answer is Energy—something that powers everything around us.
In simple terms, Energy is the ability to do work. It allows matter to move or be transformed.
Imagine a tennis player swinging their racket. As they swing, the energy stored in their body is transferred to the racket and then to the ball.
The SI unit of Energy is the joule. One joule is the amount of energy required to apply a force of one Newton to move an object over a distance of one meter.
Energy can take two main forms: Kinetic Energy, the energy of moving objects like a speeding car, and Potential Energy, like a stretched rubber band on the verge of snapping.
It can change from one form to another but is never lost. For example, the food we eat gives us energy to run, think, and have fun!
Energy drives the world, powering everything from minor processes to massive machines!
