Cardiovascular diseases are the first leading cause of death and morbidity worldwide, including hypertension, heart failure, acute myocardial infarction and peripheral vascular disease. Animal models of cardiovascular diseases can provide important information to understand the cardiovascular risk factors and disease pathogenesis. They are also very useful for translational medicine in discovery and evaluation of drugs, genes, devices, biomaterials or stem cells treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this collection is to address some improved and specialized animal models (mouse, rat, pig, primate) for the study of cardiovascular diseases. Submissions of original research papers and videos, focused on different aspects of novel experimental models, including description and characterization of novel methodologies, diagnostic techniques, medical and surgical treatments applied in small or large animals are welcomed.
