Collection Overview

The detection of microorganisms is of key relevance for a proper diagnostic of infectious diseases and in research settings in order to understand how microorganisms function and their role in pathogenesis. Accordingly, this collection aims to integrate methods that allow detection of microorganisms in microbiological or formalin-fixed and paraffin embedded (FFPE) samples. The goal is to introduce new methods or present alternative methods that are safer, cheaper and/or faster than the current used techniques. In our understanding the dissemination of a new technical procedure is much easier throughout an explanatory video, in which the authors are able to give a comprehensive description of the technique and to point out minor details of the method that can profoundly impact the success of the technique. This collection will encompass, among others, a safe, easy and cheap technique to detect mycobacteria that can be used in clinical laboratories worldwide to aid in the diagnosis of tuberculosis.
