To understand the neural underpinnings of human activities such as emotion, behavior, and learning, we need to know how information is processed in the brain. Neurons in the brain communicate through electrical impulses called action potentials, which are generated during their activity. Conducting in vivo electrophysiological recordings is crucial for unraveling the complexities of brain circuits and understanding plasticity.
This Methods Collection invites researchers to submit innovative methods for in vivo neural activity recordings in the brain, focusing on simultaneous recordings from multiple cortical areas (such as the somatosensory area and motor area) or recordings from the same area but across different cortical layers (for example, layer 2 to layer 6).
