Age-related eye diseases (AREDs), such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and cataracts, are the leading causes of vision loss and blindness worldwide. AREDs significantly burden the quality of life, health care systems, and socio-economic development of affected individuals and populations. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies for AREDs.
This Methods Collection aims to showcase current research methods in the field of ARED, covering various aspects such as epidemiology, genetics, biomarkers, imaging, therapeutics, and clinical trials. The collection will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the techniques and tools used by researchers and clinicians in ARED studies while highlighting the challenges, limitations, and future directions of this research.
By publishing this Methods collection, we hope to facilitate the dissemination, exchange, and application of the best practices and innovations in ARED research. We also hope to stimulate new collaborations and interdisciplinary approaches among researchers and clinicians working on different aspects of AREDs.
