Dr. Luis Alberto Madrigal-Perez is a researcher at the Department of Biochemical Engineering at Tecnológico Nacional de México/ ITS de Ciudad Hidalgo (ITSCH). Dr. Madrigal-Perez received his Ph. D., from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (2017), and his MSc from the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo (2010) and BEng from the Instituto Tecnológico de Morelia (2007). He studied the regulatory mechanisms and basic biochemistry of mitochondrial respiration and fermentation in his academic formation. These are key to understanding the molecular mechanisms under which some biomolecules act, such as phytochemicals. In Dr. Madrigal`s Lab at ITSCH, Dr. Madrigal’s research focuses on helping lay the molecular foundations of phenomena of biomedical and biotechnological importance, such as the Warburg and Crabtree effect, as well as the health benefits of phytochemicals.

Collection Overview

Microorganism nutrition focuses on understanding how macromolecules and oligo elements affect microorganism metabolism and growth, which helps formulate culture media, set experiments, and augment the approaches to obtain more precise information about metabolism and physiological responses. A bias in metabolism and microorganism growth data is constantly growing due to the wide use of non-specialized media on specific microorganism nutrition; such as papa-dextrose-agar (PDA) for filamentous fungi, yeast extract-peptone-dextrose (YPD) for yeasts, and Luria-Bertani (LB) for bacteria growth. This collection aims to highlight the techniques in microorganism nutrition. The collection covers but is not limited to:

- Microbiology methods of study models adapted to non-conventional microorganisms.

- Media formulation for analyzing a specific part of microorganism metabolism.

- Use microorganism growth conditions to evaluate the effect of external factors, such as experiments on cytotoxicity.

- New methods to obtain data on the microorganism growth.

- General methods to gain information on physiology, lifespan, biochemical, and molecular information related to microorganism nutrition.
