Dr. Pavana Suresh is a research scientist with a background in biochemistry and structural biology. She completed her Ph.D. at Stony Brook University, NY, in 2021, where she focused on the interactions between lipid membranes and proteins. Her doctoral research under Dr. Erwin London and Dr. Todd Miller included pioneering work on the modulation of insulin receptor activity by lipid environments.  Pavana's technical expertise is extensive, covering protein and lipid biochemistry, phage-based nanobody screening, protein purification, and advanced microscopy techniques. She also has experience in scientific illustration, using tools like Blender and Photoshop. For her postdoctoral work, she joined Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, working with Dr. Hidde Ploegh on understanding the biochemistry of E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes using alpaca derived nanobodies. She is currently working with Dr. Sun Hur, exploring the molecular mechanisms of RIG-I-like receptors using alpaca-derived nanobodies. Pavana has contributed to several publications in journals such as the Biophysical Journal, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Lipid Research, BBA Biomembranes, and PLoS One. Her research has not only expanded understanding of membrane protein interactions but also opened new avenues in nanobody-based biochemical studies.

Collection Overview

Cellular membrane dynamics are fundamental to understanding various physiological processes, including signal transduction, nutrient uptake, and cellular communication. The study of membrane dynamics, particularly through lipid manipulation, receptor function modulation, and signaling pathway elucidation, is critical for advancing cell biology and therapeutic interventions.

Despite significant advancements, the field faces challenges, such as the complexity of membrane structures and the dynamic nature of cellular processes. Robust methodologies are essential to unravel these intricacies and address the technical limitations and multidisciplinary expertise required for integrating biochemical assays, imaging techniques, and computational modeling.

This Methods Collection aims to consolidate cutting-edge methodologies in cellular membrane dynamics research. By compiling detailed protocols that address lipid manipulation techniques, receptor function assays, and signaling pathway analysis, the collection provides researchers with a comprehensive toolkit to investigate membrane dynamics with precision and reproducibility.

The scientific community will benefit from this curated collection by facilitating innovation and collaboration across disciplines. The inclusion of both individual and integrated methods will provide flexibility and adaptability for researchers working on diverse aspects of membrane dynamics. This comprehensive resource will serve as a definitive guide for researchers striving to deepen their understanding of cellular membrane dynamics, thereby contributing to advancements in biomedical sciences and translational research.
