NYU Grossman Medical School

Dr. Yi Ban is currently an assistant research professor at NYU Langone Health's Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center, specializing in cancer immunology. She earned her PhD from Rutgers University and completed advanced postdoctoral training at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her extensive background spans pharmaceutical science and molecular and cellular pharmacology. She studies the dynamics of the lung tumor microenvironment, exploring how T cells' immune responses and metabolic reprogramming are influenced by factors such as aging and senescence-associated lipids. Dr. Ban has contributed significantly to understanding immune checkpoint inhibitors in lung cancer, the regulatory mechanisms of immune cells in cancer, and the processes underlying cancer cell chemoresistance and metastasis. Her work is published in respected journals such as Nature Cancer and Cancer Research, and she continues to explore the interplay between aging and tumor microenvironments in her current research endeavors.

Collection Overview

This JoVE collection is dedicated to advancing our understanding of cancers affecting women, including breast and ovarian cancers. These malignancies continue to pose significant global health challenges, driving the need for innovative research to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

The collection emphasizes groundbreaking methodologies, cutting-edge model systems, and transformative research addressing critical challenges in studying these diseases. We encourage submissions across a broad spectrum, including:

  • Methodological Advances: Protocols and techniques that enhance the study of cancers in women, such as advanced imaging, molecular profiling, or single-cell analysis
  • Innovative Model Systems: Developing organoids, patient-derived xenografts, or genetically engineered models to represent the complexities of the tumor microenvironment more effectively
  • Drug Discovery and Resistance: Research identifying novel therapeutic targets, screening new drug candidates, or exploring mechanisms of treatment resistance

By compiling reproducible methodologies and models, this collection aims to equip the research community with practical tools and insights to address unmet needs in the fight against cancer.

We welcome researchers at all career stages to contribute. Accepted submissions will leverage JoVE's unique video format, ensuring that key methods and discoveries are accessible to a global audience. Let us drive innovation and collaboration to combat these critical health challenges effectively.
