Her current work centers on the pathogenicity of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and the mechanisms of TB pathogenesis, with a particular emphasis on Mtb–host immune system interactions. Building on these insights, she is also engaged in the development of novel anti-tuberculosis therapies.

Collection Overview

Tuberculosis is an ancient infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The Global Tuberculosis Report, published annually by the World Health Organization (WHO), documents how this disease claims hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide yearly. Even more concerning, drug-resistant strains are evolving at an alarming rate, while TB-HIV co-infections and tuberculosis cases associated with specific cancers continue to rise steadily.

Research on tuberculosis involves saving lives and ensuring public health security. Mycobacterium tuberculosis engages in an intricate battle with the human immune system. Deciphering this millennia-old battle between pathogen and host promises to yield critical breakthroughs in TB prevention and treatment. Concurrently, developing novel vaccines is important to compensate for the suboptimal protective efficacy of the BCG vaccine in adult populations. Furthermore, screening for host susceptibility genes and improving early clinical diagnosis are crucial for TB control. Ultimately, eliminating tuberculosis represents a vital milestone in achieving global health equity.
