Simon Moore

Simon Moore

Labcorp

Simon Moore provides global leadership, strategic direction, and management of a team of inhalation scientific experts, including toxicologists, aerosol technologists, and inhalation engineers. He oversees the delivery of high-quality, timely services for non-clinical respiratory safety assessment studies, ensuring compliance with international guidelines such as OECD, ICH, JMAFF, and FDA.His role encompasses the full spectrum of inhalation science, from in vitro assays and PK/PD efficacy models to toxicology safety studies and clinical administration. In addition to scientific oversight, Simon drives revenue generation, business expansion, and strategic planning, serving as a focal point for inhalation science and engineering within Covance.Simon also leads an innovative engineering services group that designs, prototypes, and manufactures custom inhalation equipment for the global Covance organization. Beyond his leadership role, Simon lectures at international conferences on inhalation methodology and development and teaches the MSc Toxicology course at the University of Surrey. He serves as vice chairman of the Association of Inhalation Toxicologists and is an active committee member of the BSI Nanotechnologies group.

Collection Overview

This collection focuses on advancing aerosol generation, exposure systems, and characterization technologies to support complex formulations and high-precision applications.

Key areas include:

1. Innovative Aerosol Generation and Delivery Techniques

  • Safe handling of high-potency test items during aerosolization
  • Methods for generating aerosols from formulations sensitive to mechanical stress, such as biologics or powders with low glass transition temperatures
  • Device-based aerosol generation, including systems like pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) and heat-not-burn tobacco devices
  • Low variability aerosol generation
  • In-vitro aerosol generation
  • Low-flow aerosol delivery

2. Enhanced Exposure System Design

  • Development and characterization of novel exposure systems (e.g., in vivo and in vitro systems) to improve control, reproducibility, homogeneity, and relevance of inhalation studies

3. Miniaturized Aerosol Characterization Tools

  • Development of compact, real-time instruments capable of continuously measuring aerosol constituents at the nanogram scale, enabling more precise and efficient monitoring and control
