Dr. med. Mahmoud Farzat, FEBU, is a highly experienced urological surgeon and academic, currently serving as a Lecturer at the Clinic for Urology, Pediatric Urology, and Andrology at Justus Liebig University, Giessen. With a distinguished career focused on robotic and surgical tumor therapy, he is a recognized expert in minimally invasive urologic oncology.Dr. Farzat possesses exceptional practical expertise, having performed almost 3000 robot-assisted procedures. He established and led the robotic urology program at the Diakonie Klinikum in Siegen, a certified prostate cancer center, where he is responsible for over 400 robotic surgeries annually. His clinical work is strongly supported by a robust academic record, with numerous first-authored publications in high-impact journals investigating the optimization of robotic surgical techniques, patient outcomes, and perioperative management.Actively engaged in the academic community, Dr. Farzat serves as a scientific reviewer for several leading journals. His work has been showcased at international conferences, and he has earned an ERUS Certificate of Excellence in Robot-Assisted Prostatectomy. With his extensive surgical experience, leadership in program development, and dedicated research, Dr. Farzat is well-positioned to assemble a methods collection that connects advanced surgical innovation with clinical education.

Collection Overview

Robotic and minimally invasive surgery has transformed the landscape of urologic oncology, offering unprecedented precision, reduced morbidity, and faster recovery for patients with malignancies of the prostate, kidney, bladder, and other urogenital organs. The integration of advanced robotic platforms, refined laparoscopic techniques, and image-guided navigation has significantly enhanced surgical accuracy and patient outcomes, marking a paradigm shift in modern oncologic care.

Despite these advances, significant challenges remain. The steep learning curve, variability in surgical outcomes across institutions, high procedural costs, and limited access in resource-constrained settings continue to hinder widespread adoption. Furthermore, long-term oncologic efficacy, functional preservation, and quality-of-life outcomes require ongoing evaluation through rigorous clinical and translational research.

This Collection aims to consolidate current progress and future directions in robotic and minimally invasive urologic oncology by bringing together research articles, reviews, technical and clinical case reports, and methodological papers. It seeks to explore surgical innovations, perioperative management strategies, outcome assessments, and novel technologies.

By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue among surgeons, oncologists, engineers, and researchers, this collection will provide a comprehensive platform for disseminating clinical insights, promoting evidence-based practices, and accelerating technological refinement. Ultimately, it will serve as a valuable resource for the global urologic oncology community, driving advancements in patient-centered care and shaping the future of minimally invasive cancer surgery.
