Dr. Isabel Martinez Garay is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience in the School of Biosciences, Cardiff University. Her research aims at elucidating how cross-talk between cells shapes the developing brain by influencing processes such as neurogenesis, migration, and synaptogenesis. She is particularly interested in cell-cell adhesion molecules, both as mediators of physical contact between cells and as potential signaling hubs.  Her research combines different in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro techniques, including the use of transgenic animals, in utero electroporation, ESC-derived neurons, calcium imaging, and RNA sequencing, to study the roles of different cell adhesion proteins during corticogenesis.

Prior to joining Cardiff University, Dr. Martinez Garay carried out postdoctoral research, first at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla as a Fullbright and a CIRM fellow, and later at the University of Oxford.
