Dr. Teng graduated in 1985 from Medical College, National Taiwan University, and worked as a faculty neonatologist after his training since 1992 at National Taiwan University Hospital. He received his pediatric and neonatology training again in the US between 1997 and 2002. After a short career at the University of Florida, he joined the Medical College of Wisconsin as a faculty neonatologist since 2006. Throughout his career, he realized that I know so little about the pathophysiology behind most of the neonatal diseases. His present job provides him an opportunity to study the mechanisms of neonatal diseases that have the potential to help his patients. His initial research work was more clinical oriented and later switched to bench research after 2006. With the help of his collaborators, his research involves free radical biology, cell signaling, autophagy, and vascular biology. His utmost goal is to find treatments that can either attenuate the severity of bronchopulmonary dysplasia or facilitate the recovery from it. The most difficult problem he is facing during his work is to know how to adequately conduct an experiment described in the literature. This is especially true when trying to use small animals for their research. He believes this is also a major hurdle for new investigators who dedicate their time for similar work. To obtain a video version of the study method will benefit all that are willing to dedicate their work to provide a better outcome of prematurely born infants.
