After graduating from Nankai University with a BS in Physics, Yu earned his PhD studying acoustic communication in noise at Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Science. He joined the Stowers Microscopy team in 2009 as a specialist and then was named manager of Microscopy in 2021. Yu is an expert in super resolution microscopy techniques, including SIM, STED and STORM. Currently he is interested in developing and utilizing microscopy technologies to facilitate basic research at Stowers. He has published more than 40 scientific journals including Cell, Nature, eLife, P.N.A.S. et al.
