Dr. Bharti Bisht, Ph.D. is currently working as a Research Associate at the Department of Thoracic Surgery at David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. Her research has significantly contributed to lung stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. Dr. Bharti’s research is focused on deciphering signaling pathways regulating murine and human stem cells (SC) lineage specification via deterministic and stochastic gene expression during regeneration after injury. She has gained extensive experience in understanding the mechanism of Adult Stem Cells (ASCs), Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs), and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) in the lung, pancreatic, and bone regeneration, lineage specification, and directed differentiation in both murine and human models. She is an expert in Organoid bioengineering disease modeling and has experience working with lung, pancreas, gut, and bone organoids. Working on a NASA-UCLA collaborative project on Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) and bone regeneration during space flights had opened an innovative dimension to her quest to understand stem cell and regenerative biology. Her Ph.D. research had provided a strong foundation on insulin signaling and its regulation during diabetes. Dr. Bharti’s research focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of pancreatic stem cell-mediated Beta (β)-cell repair, maintenance, and homeostasis.
