Dr. Suva Roy is a faculty member of the University of Utah. He was a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University School of Medicine. He has worked in the field of visual neuroscience for more than ten years. He started his neuroscience career studying the fly visual system with Dr. Rob de Ruyter at Indiana University. In his postdoc at Duke in the lab of Dr. Greg Field, he transitioned to studying visual processing in the mammalian retina. He has led and contributed to several studies, including those that delineate the role of cell-surface proteins in the developing retina, the organization of receptive fields of retinal ganglion cell types and its consequences for natural scene encoding, and the development of a custom light-sheet imaging system for ex vivo retinal studies. His research interests also span other areas in vision science, including, emerging techniques for large-scale imaging of retinal activity and comparative neurobiology of vision.
