Dr. Sina Shadfar is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Cellular Biology and Therapeutics Team within the multidisciplinary Motor Neuron Disease Research Centre at Macquarie University. Dr. Shadfar received his master’s degree in neuropharmacology from the College of Pharmacy, Yeungnam University in South Korea, where he studied the role of neurotrophic factors in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. He received his PhD in neurobiology at Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University, Australia.
During his PhD, Dr. Shadfar identified novel therapeutic strategies to enhance DNA repair in neurodegenerative diseases in both cells and in vivo models (zebrafish, rodents, and C. elegans). He was awarded 10 prestigious scholarships, awards, or international travel grants, including the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies and International Brain Organization's (FENS-IBRO) young investigators training grant. Dr. Shadfar has published a total of 25 articles in leading journals and presented at 20 national and international conferences in 7 different countries. His current research focuses on studying aging mechanisms and finding novel therapeutics based on modifying age-related pathways in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly in ALS/FTD.
