Prof. Greco Hernández earned his degree in biology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1992 and his PhD in molecular biology from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) in 1999. He then completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen, Germany, and the University of Bern, Switzerland, followed by six years as a research associate at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Since 2011, he has been a principal investigator at the National Institute of Cancerology (Instituto Nacional de Cancerología, INCan) in Mexico and, since 2024, a professor-researcher at Tecnológico de Monterrey.

His laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis in cancer and the development of mRNA-based therapeutics. He has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications focused on mRNA translation in Drosophila development, cancer, and the evolution of the eukaryotic protein synthesis apparatus.
