Accelerometer Data

Accelerometer data are measurements of changes in motion collected over time, providing an objective way to quantify physical activity and behavior. An accelerometer detects acceleration along one or more axes, typically through microscopic sensing elements, and records signals at a defined sampling rate; researchers then process these signals to identify movement intensity, duration, posture, or activity patterns. In behavioral research, these data can characterize locomotion, rest, feeding, and other actions in humans or animals, often revealing patterns that observation alone may miss. Careful calibration, signal filtering, and interpretation help distinguish meaningful behavior from noise and support comparisons across individuals or conditions.

Assessment of Physical Activity Intensity with Accelerometers and Oxygen Consumption

Here, we present a protocol to assess physical activity intensity levels measured with indirect calorimetry and two accelerometers (on the right wrist and waist) during an incremental walking-jogging test (from 0.84 to 2.37 m/s) on an oval track. The results show differences among the physical intensity assessed through those methods.

Real-time Flight Control: Embedded Sensor Calibration and Data Acquisition

2023

Source: Ella M. Atkins, Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI Overview Autopilot allows aircraft to be stabilized using data collected from onboard sensors that measure the aircraft’s orientation, angular velocity, and airspeed. These quantities can be adjusted by the autopilot so that the aircraft automatically follows a flight plan from launch (takeoff) through recovery (landing). Similar sensor data is collected to control all types of aircraft, from...

Data Interpretation

2026

Research papers often present findings in the form of numerical tables, statistical outputs, and graphical representations. However, numerical results alone do not convey meaning unless researchers examine and place them in context. Data interpretation is the systematic process through which researchers transform raw information into clear, meaningful insights. It begins only after researchers have collected data through experiments, surveys, or observational studies. In their unprocessed form,...
