Cancer Inhibition

Cancer inhibition is the suppression or prevention of cancer development, progression, or spread by limiting abnormal cell growth and survival. It can occur when molecular or behavioral changes block proliferative signaling, trigger programmed cell death, restore growth control, reduce invasion, or enhance immune recognition of tumor cells. Studying these mechanisms helps researchers understand how cancer cells differ from healthy cells and how their behavior changes in response to genetic, cellular, or environmental conditions. Cancer inhibition underpins the development of targeted therapies, immune-based treatments, and strategies for preventing metastasis, with outcomes evaluated through changes in tumor growth, cell migration, and treatment response.

Feedback Inhibition

Biochemical reactions are occurring constantly in cells, converting starting substances to different products, usually with the help of enzymes that speed the reactions. Without enzymes, it would take far too long for most reactions to occur to be useful to the cell! Since enzymes help control the rate of reactions, their activity is regulated so that appropriate amounts of starting materials, intermediate metabolites, and products are maintained in the cell. Excessive build-up or depletion of...

Enzyme Inhibition

2025

Inhibitors are molecules that reduce enzyme activity by binding to the enzyme. In a normally functioning cell, enzymes are regulated by a variety of inhibitors. Drugs and other toxins can also inhibit enzymes. Some inhibitors bind to the enzyme’s active site, while others inhibit enzymatic activity by binding to other sites on the protein structure. Competitive inhibitors occupy the active site of enzymes, making them unable to accommodate the substrate. However, sufficiently high...

This video demonstrates the seedling growth inhibition assay in the Arabidopsis thaliana plant. The impact of increased concentration of immune peptide elicitor on seedling growth is determined.

A Murine Cell Line Based Model of Chronic CDK9 Inhibition to Study Widespread Non-Genetic Transcriptional Elongation Defects (TEdeff) in Cancers

The protocol details an in vitro murine carcinoma model of non-genetic defective transcription elongation. Here, chronic inhibition of CDK9 is used to repress productive elongation of RNA Pol II along pro-inflammatory response genes to mimic and study the clinically observed TEdeff phenomenon, present in about 20% of all cancer types.
