Computerized Testing

Computerized testing is a method that uses software to present standardized stimuli, record responses, and evaluate performance, making it valuable for measuring behavior consistently and efficiently. In behavioral research, a computer controls the timing and order of trials, captures responses such as key presses or selections, and applies predefined scoring rules to quantify accuracy, reaction time, learning, or decision-making. These tests support experiments on cognition, perception, memory, attention, and other behavioral processes while reducing manual recording and improving reproducibility. They can also generate precise datasets for comparing individuals, experimental conditions, or changes in performance over time.

Here, we present a protocol to develop the computerized adaptive testing system of the functional assessment of stroke (CAT-FAS). The CAT-FAS can simultaneously assess four functions (two motor functions [upper and lower extremities], postural control, and basic activities of daily living) with sufficient reliability and administrative efficiency.

Individuals with intermittent claudication exhibit poor balance compared to healthy controls. Computerized dynamic posturography is an objective method for measuring an individual's postural responses to balance disturbances. This provides an objective reflection of the person’s ability to respond to situations under which sensory stimuli are altered and unexpected perturbations occur.
