Human Subject Testing

Human subject testing is the systematic study of people’s responses, actions, or experiences under defined research conditions, providing direct evidence about human behavior and its variation. Researchers recruit participants under approved protocols, obtain informed consent, and use standardized tasks, observations, interviews, or questionnaires to measure behavior while controlling relevant environmental or experimental factors. These procedures support research on cognition, learning, decision-making, social interaction, and behavioral change, allowing investigators to evaluate hypotheses and compare responses across individuals or conditions. Careful study design, participant protections, and reproducible measurements strengthen the validity and ethical basis of findings used in psychology, education, health, and human-centered technology.

2009

Algorithms assessing heat and mechanical pain thresholds in experimentally inflamed skin of human study subjects are shown. The two pain testing paradigms independently examine nociceptive processing by the two major peripheral nerve fiber populations transmitting pain, i.e., non-myelinated C fibers and small myelinated A-delta fibers.

Anxiety Testing

2023

Anxiety is a commonly observed behavioral disorder that stems from fear. It is described as increased restlessness, or unpleasant feelings of fear over anticipated events. Experimenters often use rodent models to better understand anxiety disorders in humans. They use different paradigms, like exposing rodents to bright spaces or loud sounds, which are known to induce fear. These tests combined with other interventions such as surgery or drug-administration may assist researchers in pinpointing...
