Cross-national Survey

A cross-national survey is a research method that collects comparable information from people in multiple countries to identify patterns in behavior, attitudes, or social conditions across national settings. Researchers use standardized questionnaires, sampling procedures, and data-collection protocols, while carefully adapting and translating measures to preserve equivalent meaning across languages and cultures. These surveys can reveal how cultural norms, institutions, economic conditions, and public policies relate to behavioral differences or similarities. In behavioral research, they support comparative analysis, test whether findings generalize beyond one population, and help identify how national context influences individual and group outcomes.

Often, psychologists develop surveys as a means of gathering data. Surveys are lists of questions to be answered by research participants, and can be delivered as paper-and-pencil questionnaires, administered electronically, or conducted verbally. Generally, the survey itself can be completed in a short time, and the ease of administering a survey makes it easy to collect data from a large number of people. Surveys allow researchers to gather data from larger samples than may be afforded by...

A number of methods are available for sampling forest communities. Point-centered quarter is one such method. It is used to gather information on the density, frequency, and coverage of tree species found in a forest. This information provides the ability to estimate the number of individual trees encountered, how often a certain tree occurs, how common the tree is compared to other trees, and the size of the tree. Compared to the standard plot analysis, the point-centered quarter method is...

Ever since, they have been an important part of geological investigations all around the world that strive to understand rock distributions on the surface of the earth, in the subsurface, and their modification through time. A modern geologic map is a data-rich representation of rocks and rock-structures in a two-dimensional plan view. The...
